Abraham believed god and was counted righteous

Paul moves on in his defense of justification by faith alone to an example from the scriptures, the ultimate example of Abraham himself. The Jews believed that in order to be a child of God, one must first become a child of Abraham, and that required circumcision. Paul shows this to be in error and a wrong understanding of scripture by examining Abraham’s life.
